With the selection process completed, eight Australian’s are gearing up for the 2019 International One Metre Class (IOM) World Championship to be held in Porto Alegre, Brazil in November.
The eight sees the largest participation by Australian’s in a world championship for many years and includes our current Australian Champion, Sean Wallis (WA) along with his nemesis Paul Jones (NSW), who will be leading the Aussie charge in the hope of success.
A total of 76 sailors from across eighteen countries will participate in the event and will include current world champion, Zvonko Jelacic (CRO), past world champion Peter Stollery (GBR) as well as the top sailors from each individual country and our team will need to be at the top of their game as they meet the challengers for the title.
The host club, Clube dos Jangadeiros is located on an island and the venue offers multiple walking race courses with excellent sight lines, wave action and downwind surfing on the fresh water of Guaiba River. The club promises great racing and after racing, in the best Gaucho tradition, live music, locally brewed beer, Caipirinha and traditional ‘Churrasco’ cuisine, offering the very best in Brazilian hospitality.
