Following the release of Amendment No. 02 to the Notice of Race, competitors sailing eligible pre-2010 IOM designs will now have the opportunity to compete for dedicated Classic IOM honours alongside the main Championship fleet.

The new division recognises the rich history of the International One Metre class and provides a chance for many of the designs that helped shape modern IOM racing to once again take their place on the start line. While today's fleets are dominated by the latest designs, there remains a strong affection for the yachts that carried the class through the earlier years.

The introduction of the division is expected to add another layer of interest to the Championship, which old favourites might emerge from garages and sheds around the country.

Will we see a fleet of restored classics lining up on the Sunshine Coast? Will an older design show surprising pace against its younger rivals? Most importantly, who will become the Classics IOM Australian Champion?

If you've been looking for an excuse to give that treasured older IOM another day in the spotlight, this might just be it.

The 2026 International One Metre Australian Championship will be sailed at at Queensland's Sunshine Coast from 19–23 August 2026. Competitors wishing to be considered for the Classic IOM Division should submit their Championship entry as normal and separately notify the Organising Authority in accordance with the Notice of Race.
