The Australian Radio Yachting Association is pleased to announce that Australia has successfully secured the hosting rights for the 2027 International One Metre Class Oceania Championship, with the prestigious continental championship set to be held at Regatta Waters, Gold Coast, Queensland from 05–10 September 2027.

oceania_logo1The Oceania Championship is one of the premier international regattas on the International One Metre calendar and attracts the best skippers from across the Oceania region and beyond. The event is expected to draw a highly competitive international fleet, with Australia, New Zealand and regional nations set to battle for continental honours.

Planning and organisation for the championship is already well underway, with the organising committee led by Andrew “Bouybot” Wilson with the team preparing an outstanding bid submission that was highly regarded by IOMICA. The proposed venue at Regatta Waters offers an excellent championship racing location and is expected to provide a fantastic setting for both competitors and spectators.

Australia enters the event with strong recent experience in delivering world-class radio sailing championships, having successfully hosted the IOM World Championship in Gladstone, Queensland during October 2024. Widely regarded as one of the benchmark events in recent years, the Gladstone championship showcased Australia’s ability to deliver major international regattas at the highest standard both on and off the water.

Current Oceania Championship trophy holder Paul Jones will be expected to again feature prominently at the 2027 championship as he looks to defend the title on home waters. Jones has consistently been one of Australia’s leading IOM competitors over many years and remains a major force within the class.

The Gold Coast venue is expected to provide a spectacular backdrop for the championship, with the combination of competitive racing, strong international participation and Queensland hospitality set to make the 2027 Oceania Championship a major highlight on the international radio sailing calendar.

Further information regarding the 2027 International One Metre Oceania Championship, including schedule of sailing, accommodation information, notices and entry details, will be released as preparations continue and once finalised will be available on the event website https://iomoceania.com
