McDowall Claims 2026 International Marblehead Class Australian Championship
The 2026 International Marblehead Class Australian Championship concluded today at Emerald Lakes on the Gold Coast, following three days of high-quality racing in a competitive national fleet.
The final day was sailed in lighter south-east to easterly breezes, with A rigs carried throughout the day. The more moderate conditions demanded precision boat handling, careful positioning and consistent execution, providing a fitting conclusion to a well-run championship.
After 24 races were completed, Lincoln McDowall (VIC/Albert Park MYC) was crowned 2026 Australian Champion. Sailing AUS 97 (F6), McDowall demonstrated outstanding consistency across the series, finishing on 30 nett points (58 total). His regatta was characterised by multiple race wins, strong starts and disciplined race management across a range of conditions.
Second place was secured by Greg Torpy (QLD/Gladstone RCYC) sailing AUS 25 (Grunge) on 54 nett points. Torpy remained firmly in contention throughout the championship, posting several race victories and consistently finishing near the front of the fleet.
Third place went to Brett Osborn (SA/Adelaide RCYRC) aboard AUS 79 (Grunge) with 57 nett points. Osborn delivered a solid and composed performance across the series to round out the podium.
Fourth place was taken by Andrew Reid (VIC/Albert Park MYC), with John Gower (QLD/Eagleby RYC) completing the top five.
In addition to the overall championship podium, the following awards were presented:
- Masters Champion: Mark Newman (ACT/Canberra MYC) – 8th overall
- Grand Masters Champion: Rex Scott (QLD/PRYC) – 14th overall
Both sailors produced consistent performances within their respective divisions in a strong national fleet.
Emerald Lakes proved to be an excellent championship venue, providing varied wind strengths and tactical racing throughout the event. The completion of 24 races ensured a comprehensive and fair championship outcome.
The Australian Radio Yachting Association congratulates Lincoln McDowall on his 2026 International Marblehead Class Australian Championship victory and acknowledges all competitors, race officials and volunteers who contributed to the successful conduct of the event.
