Susan McAnna Memorial Trophy – A Regatta with Heart and History
One of NSW radio sailing’s most significant regattas, the Susan McAnna Memorial Trophy, takes place at Kogarah Bay Sailing Club on 21–22 February 2026, bringing together the state’s leading skippers for a weekend that blends high-level competition with meaningful remembrance.
More than simply another stop on the calendar, this event carries genuine history and significance. The regatta is named in memory of Susan McAnna, whose contribution to NSW RC sailing left a lasting impact on the sport. Susan served as Secretary of the NSW Radio Yacht Association for a number of years and was a familiar and trusted presence managing scoring at many events across the state. Her professionalism, organisation and dedication helped ensure countless regattas ran smoothly, and her work behind the scenes became an integral part of the NSW sailing community.
The Memorial Trophy stands as a lasting tribute to that commitment. Each year, sailors gather not only to compete, but also to acknowledge the service and effort that underpin the sport at every level.
On the water, the racing promises to be of the highest standard. The International One Metre class continues to set the benchmark for tactical, close-quarters competition in radio sailing. Kogarah Bay’s protected yet challenging conditions reward sharp decision-making, disciplined boat handling and strategic positioning. Races are often decided by the smallest of margins, making consistency across the two days critical.
At the conclusion of racing, the Susan McAnna Memorial Trophy will be presented to the highest placed skipper who has not previously won the award. This unique condition ensures the Trophy continues to recognise new achievement within the fleet, allowing different names to be added to its history while preserving its competitive integrity.
As the 2026 season gathers momentum, the February 21–22 weekend shapes as a highlight of the NSW calendar. Competitive, respectful and community-driven, the Susan McAnna Memorial Trophy continues to reflect the very values that Susan brought to the sport — dedication, professionalism and a genuine passion for radio sailing.
