2025 Eddie Cowell Perpetual Trophy Draws Big Fleet to Sunshine Coast

May 19, 2025

The 2025 Eddie Cowell Perpetual Trophy Regatta is set to light up the Sunshine Coast from 22 to 24 August, with 45 entries already received and more expected in the lead-up to the event.

Among the fleet is a strong group of New Zealand sailors, adding international flavour to what is shaping up to be one of the standout IOM regattas of the year.

Hosted by the Sunshine Coast Radio Sailing Club, the regatta is a long-standing winter favourite, offering competitive racing in a friendly and scenic environment. The event honours Eddie Cowell, whose longstanding contributions and passion for radio sailing have made a significant impact. The trophy named after him celebrates his past commitment to the sport.

The racing is expected to be fiercely competitive, with a strong fleet of skilled sailors from Australia and New Zealand vying for the coveted trophy over three days of intense competition.

Sean Wallis, President of the Australian Radio Yachting Association (ARYA), reflected on the event’s reputation:

“The Eddie Cowell is more than just another regatta — it’s a premier event on the ARYA calendar. It consistently delivers top-level racing, strong camaraderie, and showcases the very best of our sport.”

Entries remain open — but spots are filling fast.
