Day 2 of the Ten Rater Australian Championships
Scott Condie takes two from two in the 2025 ARYA National Championships with a resounding win in the 10R championship.
With agreement from all skippers, it was decided to conclude the 10R championship at the end of the second day.
A glassed out day initially had skippers wondering what went wrong with the forecast, which had predicted 18 knots most of the day. By the scheduled start time, a soft WNW breeze had settled and racing resumed. Condie started as he finished yesterday, dominating the scoreline and hardly skipping a beat.
Andrew Reid solidifying second place with a number of podium positions as well. Third place was heating up with Mark Newman, Rob Nowak, Chris Ryan and John Gower all within a few points of each other at lunch time.
After lunch, the breeze picked up to the predictions, with a strong 18 knot north westerly coming in. The competitors soon shifted through their rigs through to B2/E Rigs with a few suffering some gear damage. Condie losing the use of his smallest rig and having to cope with the next one up.
The wind got close to the rescue crew calling time out on a safety level, but it soon abated back to around a solid 18 knot breeze. Although overpowered, Condie managed to take out the last three races, showing how it is done in the heavy conditions.
Unfortunately, weed played a factor again today, but the frontrunners put on a show with how to back off at the right times in order to throw any weed off and keep the pace throughout most of the races.
Russell Harding struggled a bit yesterday, but showed real promise, with a couple of podium positions during the day.
At the close of the day, the sailors packed up and retired to the MBYC Bar for a BBQ while the course was packed up and scores tallied. No surprise with Scott Condie taking home the 1015 10R National Championship on just 25 points from the 24 races.
Andrew Reid took home a well earned second place on 45 points, with Mark Newman in third on 71 points. Chris Ryan took out the Masters, with Russell Harding the Grand Master winner for 2025.
Big thankyou to the race committee and rescue crews over the course of the event. Stu Dawes worked tirelessly and kept the races going in an efficient manner.
Thanks also to all the competitors, for putting on a show of excellent sailing and sportsmanship throughout the two days. Leading by example with how important sportsmanship is, especially in the heavier weather. The observers roles were practically redundant in the way you all held each other to the highest standards.
