2025 IOM Australian Championship - Day 2

Feb 16, 2025

The battle for supremacy in the International One Metre (IOM) Class Australian Championship intensified on Day 2 at Montrose Bay, Hobart, Tasmania. However, the wind continued to challenge both sailors and race officials, shifting unpredictably and varying in strength throughout the day, making it a true test of skill and adaptability.

Overnight leader Glenn Dawson (WA) remained steady in the volatile conditions, securing three third-place finishes to maintain his place among the frontrunners. However, defending champion Sean Wallis (WA) took advantage of every opportunity, delivering two second-place finishes and a crucial race win to reclaim the overall lead.

South Australia’s Alex Scapens proved he is more than capable of matching the Western Australian duo, securing two impressive race wins. Both victories were achieved by the narrowest of margins, with less than a boat length separating him from the competition in the first two races of the day.

Brett Osborn showed remarkable consistency, climbing up the leaderboard to secure third overall, while Paul Jones, always a fierce competitor, now sits in fourth place.

With the championship battle heating up and the unpredictable conditions keeping sailors on their toes, the stage is set for an exciting conclusion in the days ahead. The question remains—can Wallis defend his title, or will Dawson, Scapens, or Osborn find an extra gear to claim victory?

Two days to go, let's see what happens!
