2024 IOM Worlds continues to kick goals - congratulations.
The Gladstone Radio Controlled Radio Yacht Club won an award for the best event at the local Gladstone Regional Council Australia Day awards
The ARYA congratulates the Gladstone Radio Controlled Yacht Club on this outstanding achievement. A small club of only thirteen members stunned the world with its amazing production of the 2024 IOM World Championships.
The IOM World Championship Working Group can feel immensely proud of the award which acknowledges their huge contribution to the event.
On Saturday 25 January 2025, the 2024 International One Metre World Championships was recognised at the Gladstone Regional Council Australia Day awards, taking out the community event award category.
The award was accepted by Ian Mckay, Grant and Natalie Cooper and Aaron Farrar. This recognition is for all of the members of the world working group, volunteers, ARYA and the amazing sponsors who made the event possible, run smoothly and showcase radio sailing and the Gladstone region to the world. Congratulations to everyone involved.
The citation on the award reads:
"The 2024 IOM World Championships, hosted by the Gladstone Radio Controlled Radio Yacht Club, from 20-28 October 2024 was a resounding success, setting a new standard for International events. Despite a small membership base, the GRCYC raised $315,000, surpassing fundraising targets. The event attracted 76 competitors, 100 volunteers and 1500 visitors, generating $1.1 million in local economy activity. With over 120,000 live stream views, Gladstone was showcased globally as a premier destination for world class events. The Championships fostered community pride, demonstrated exceptional organisation and elevated the region's profile, leaving a legacy for future events."
