National Championships cancelled - DF Classes and RC Lasers

Aug 18, 2021

Following consultation with our State members, the ARYA has made the unfortunate decision that the 2021 Australian Championships regattas for the DF Classes and RC Lasers will not be held in October 2021.

The ARYA thanks both the Tasmanian Radio Yachting Council and the Queensland Radio Yachting Association for their support in coming to these decisions.

The National Championships for our classes are the premier events on the ARYA sailing calendar.  However, uncertainty surrounding travel as well as the possibility that the event could potentially be shut down at very short notice leads us to come to this conclusion.

We understand that there is a strong desire to return to these regattas, catch up with friends and engage in high level competition with the best skippers in the country. It is really unfortunate that this situation has eventuated and we hope that the ability to return to these activities will not take too long.

At this stage, the ARYA will follow closely the government announcements in relation to travel, border restrictions and the like to ascertain when our National Championship program can continue.

Our attention will now turn to the IOM Class event in Adelaide. This event has been fully subscribed. Discussion with the SARYA and decisions around this event will take place in the next month or so and be advised.

For those who have entered the DF65, DF95 and RC Laser Class events, refunds of entry fees (in full) will be processed within the next 7-14 days and will be refunded directly to the credit card used for payment. Information regarding the re-scheduling of these events will be announced when circumstances allow.
