NSWRYA Kicks Off Marblehead GP @ Kogarah Bay

Feb 11, 2021

Round 1 of the NSW Marblehead GP series kicked off at Kogarah Bay with a two day event over 06-07 February.

m_logo_blackbgSince the Nationals were put back to later in the year, it was decided we have a two day event to take the place of them. The ARYA and NSWRYA Marblehead Class Coordinator was really keen to get guys from Victoria and Queensland to travel.

Fourteen eager contestants started the day with Scott “Boomber” Backhouse as our P.R.O. setting excellent courses for the north nor’easter that was scheduled to blow like snot????.

Current Tasmania Marblehead Champion Andy Reid, started with 3 wins from 4 races, so he was the man to beat. It was great to see the lads from Lake Macquarie and their pimped Paradoxes have smiles on their faces all day. Sedgy even had a crack in his Paradox which was just FAST!!!!

Certainly great to see 6 boats all within 5 metres of each other going to the bottom gate each time. Everyone smiling at each other appreciating the quality of racing and venue.

At the end of day 1, with most finishing in B Rig, local Scott Condie was leading from The Mexican, (Reidy), Paul “PimpMyParadox” Jones and the Cane Toad (Greg Torpy) close on their heels. Saturday night was good and everyone enjoyed themselves.. this was as good as the sailing I gotta say....... Whilst I’m spruiking, I gotta hand it to Taren Point Bowling Club. They always make us feel welcome and nothing's an issue, even dropping us all home after fine food and drinks.

Sunday's P.R.O for the day, Peter Zecchin started us off in a light Sou'easterly which build to a nice A rig.. the racing was tight all morning when lunch was called, Owen Jarvis, our best scorer tells me Condie and Reidy were within a point of each other and with Torps getting his act together in his Grunge, he made the most of it by winning the most races for the day.

In the end, it was that Condie bloke who come out on top, with Reidy 2nd and Greg Torpy 3rd and Jonesy 4th.

A big thank you to the guys that turn up each event supporting the class. It’s a credit to your love of the Marblehead Class.???? Just reading the ARYA AGM minutes and the Registrars report tells us that Marblehead registrations are up 35% this year.... amazing considering the new normal. !!!!!!!!!

These things don’t happen by themselves, and the above new figures show the gentlemen below are helping this happen, so a big thank you goes to Scott Backhouse, Peter Cleary, Ted Gay, Peter Zecchin, Terry McLeod, Allen Roberts and Owen Jarvis for running the event and to KBSC for allowing us to hold it!
