2020 IOM Oceania Regional Championship Postponement

Jun 13, 2020

Due to the impact of COVID-19 and ongoing restrictions as countries manage this pandemic, the organising committee has made the decision to postpone the 2020 IOM Oceania Regional Championship.

\images\oceania_logo_lgThe decision to postpone this event took into consideration numerous factors including the high likelihood of limited access to flights & accommodation, economic stress in the region and the health and well-being of both competitors and volunteers supporting the event, all squeezing the lead in time for a continued commitment to a ranking-dependent regatta.

New Zealand Radio Yachting Association (NZRYA) chairman Michael McLachlan stated “Naturally we are disappointed that the Oceania can not proceed at this time. The NZRYA and NZL IOM NCA would like to thank the Australian Radio Yachting Association (ARYA) and members of the Oceania Steering Committee for all the work they have put into the inaugural Oceania Regatta, and subject to ARYA agreement, look forward to the opportunity to host the Oceania Regatta in October/November 2021.”

The NZRYA has made some other changes to their calendar of events, and should the Trans-Tasman “bubble” be in place, will provide an opportunity for Australian sailors to take on six days of sailing over nine days in South Island, New Zealand.

Top of South IOM Regional Championship, Nelson NZL ~ 10-11 October 2020 …… and then four days later
NZL IOM National Championship, Pegasus, Christchurch NZL ~ 15-18 October 2020

Both NZL & AUS Radio Yachting Associations will be working toward re-scheduling of the event with further information to be released in due course.
