WA Set for Inaugural DF AUS Championships

Mar 4, 2020

The inaugural Australian Championships for the DF65 & DF95 classes will be held at Austin Lakes, Western Australia over 6-9 March 2020 and sees competitors from across Australia participating in the event.

\images\df95Austin Lakes will be buzzing with excitement as competitors arrive for the 2020 Australian DF Championships conducted by Radio Sailing Association of WA in conjunction with the Australian DF Class Association at Austin Lakes, South Yunderup, WA.

Situated just an hour’s drive south of the Perth CBD, South Yunderup is a beautiful and relaxing township on the south bank of the Murray River at Peel Inlet. The larger towns of Mandurah and Pinjarra are in close proximity, as is the spectacular Darling Range to the east and the sparkling Indian Ocean to the west and is an ideal venue for the championships having previously been a selected venue for Australian championships for 10R, IOM, M & A classes.

With each class championship being held over two days, the DF65's will open the show with a small but competitive fleet of 22 boats sailing 6-7 March ahead of the larger DF95 design seeing 29 boats sailing 8-9 March.

Forecast weather conditions look fantastic with Perth just putting on it's best, warm temperatures along with light breezes to kick off and then increasing later in the day with expectations of breezes around 10-15 knots for each afternoon of the championships.

Picking a winner in each of the classes is a difficult task with a multitude of sailors looking for a podium position and of course there will be plenty of support for the local entrants with the interstate competitors hoping to make a trip worthwhile, but to pick a winner, well we might have to wait for the final day!
