IOMs Set for Five Days of Solid Top Level Racing

Jul 2, 2019

Two major events over two weekends will see five days of solid top level racing with the 2019 Victorian IOM State Championship in Yarrawonga on the weekend of 27-28 July followed by the Sunshine Coast IOM Regatta on the Sunshine Coast over 02-04 August.

Yarrawonga Yacht Club (pictured above) is situated on the south bank of the Murray River, on the border between Victoria and New South Wales and is located approximately 265 kilometres north-east of the Victorian state capital, Melbourne and will be host club for this years Victorian IOM State Championship.

With the 2019 IOM Worlds in the not too distant future, the cream of Australia's IOM fleet are taking every opportunity to hone their skills as part of their preparation and with an entry list featuring Australia's top seven ranked sailors the event is certain to deliver the practice required.

In addition there are others who are just popping out of the woodwork with the likes of Scott 'Bomber' Backhouse who has not been seen for a long time, slipping on to the entry list. Bomber will no doubt get back on the saddle ready to push around the likes of our top duo Paul Jones and Sean Wallis (lucky he's a big boy because he'll need to be to push these two around).

The event previously held at this time, the Eddie Cowell Perpetual Trophy Regatta has been replaced with the new Sunshine Coast Radio Sailing Club hosting the SC IOM Regatta. The Sunshine Coast event is one of the premier IOM events in Australia and traditionally has attracted entrants from Singapore, Malaysia & New Zealand and this year is no different with seven entries from across the Tasman already received.

Both events will see the best of the best of the IOM fleet battle it out to determine who will have bragging rights (maybe for some this will be for 4 days only!).

With few events during the Australian winter there's no reason not to be part of either or both of these events!

Notice of Race & online entry for both events is available online at our new ARYA website https://radiosailing.org.au
