Approved Heat Management and Scoring Systems
Heat Management
As a general rule, where racing involves less than 12 boats, each Race will consist of a single fleet of boats. Where there are more than 12 boats, each Race is broken up into a series of Fleets (or Heats) and a Heat Management System is therefore required that establishes the rules, processes, and scoring method to be followed in such cases.
For multi-fleet racing, the following Heat Management Systems are approved by the ARYA:
- UK Model Yachting Association (MYA) Heat Management System (HMS).
HMS is used at most Australian radio sailing events and has been developed by the MYA over many years.
The key documents that outline the rules, processes, and method of scoring of MYA HMS can be found here: https://www.mya-uk.org.uk/kb/mya-heat-management-system-hms-current/ - Croatian Sailing Federation - Radio Sailing Division (CSF-RSD) Simple Heat Racing System (SHRS).
SHRS has recently emerged as an alternative to the MYA HMS and is popular at European events.
The key document that outlines the rules, processes, and method of scoring of SHRS can be found here: https://anzamsystems.com/Documents/Documents.html
The Sailing Instructions should specify which Heat Management System is to be used at an event. The ARYA has two Sailing Instruction templates for that purpose and they can be found here: https://radiosailing.org.au/index.php?arcade=documents
Race Scoring Systems
For single fleet racing the race committee shall score a series as provided in Appendix A of the Racing Rules of Sailing using the Low Point System. Appendix A2.1 is often modified for such racing to use the HMS and SHRS approach to discards which means it is possible to use any of the scoring systems below for single fleet racing events.
For multi-fleet racing, the following Race Scoring Systems are approved by the ARYA:
- UK Model Yachting Association (MYA) HMS Scoring System.
Developed in conjunction with the MYA Heat Management System (See above), the HMS Scoring System is a Microsoft Excel based system (Excel 2017 and above) that runs under Microsoft Windows and can be used to score single and multi-fleet (under HMS) racing. The HMS Scoring System is available from the MYA at no charge.
The HMS Scoring System and instructions for its use can be found here: https://www.mya-uk.org.uk/kb/mya-heat-management-system-hms-current/
2. A Fleet.
A Fleet is an Android based app for scoring single-fleet and multi-fleet (under HMS rules – see above). A modest cost is charged for downloading A Fleet.
Information on A Fleet is here: https://afleet.app
3. ANZAM Radio Yacht Race Management System (ARYRM).
ARYRM has been developed as a system for managing and scoring both single-fleet and multi-fleet (under SHRS) racing. It is a Microsoft Windows based application that can also publish results to the Internet.
Information on ARYRM is available here: https://anzamsystems.com/index.html
ARYRM can be obtained by following the instructions here: https://anzamsystems.com/Conact/Contact.html
