Queensland 10R Championship 2015

2The Queensland 10R Championship for 2015 has been run and won in a very comprehensive fashion.

It’s a tough day when you have to discard 3 firsts and 1 third placing for your final score, but someone had to do it, so it’s congratulations to Gary Bromley.

The wind started in from the SSE at around 15 km/hr and, although it swung around to the SE and E at times, it never let up all day with some gusts up around the 20-25 mark.

PRO Ian Ashe wasn’t that troubled setting a course, and racing got underway just after 10:00 am.

Eddie Cowell IOM Cup 2015

It was great to see a large number of skippers turn up for the EC Cup. We had 3 from Western Australia, 2 from Victoria, 6 from New South Wales and 2 from across the ditch New Zealand.

This is a hot fleet, we have a former World Champ and National Champs from both Australia and New Zealand.

The conditions were ideal throughout the 2 days, light to moderate breezes kept everyone in A-rig for the duration of the event. A course was set and the seeding racings got away almost on time.

The racing was close throughout both days. The continual slight wind direction changes made picking the right side of the start line to start from difficult; it varied from race to race. Get it right and you’re in good shape in getting to the top mark first-ish!

QLD RC Laser Championship 2015

The 2015 Queensland RC Laser Championship was won by Peter Burford after some keen racing.

The PRYC welcomed 11 starters to a really calm day at Emerald Lakes on Sunday, 26th July. PRO Bill Clancy could not get a race started until more than an hour after the advertised time and then there were only 3 completed  before the lunch break. A fourth heat was abandoned when the leading 4 boats were on the last leg and started drifting backwards. At this point, Linton Ward who had come from Cairns, was in  front having showed us all how to sail in really light weather.

After an extended break, sailing resumed in variable winds from the NW. The strength varied from near zero with occasional gusts up to about 8 knots which was enough to make many of the boats nosedive under their A rigs. Just when 2 competitors changed down to B rigs the breeze lightened again. The ‘fresher’ breezes in the afternoon suited Peter Burford, Barry Hill who finished second and Ross McKay, our lone visitor from the Sunshine Coast, who took home the Bronze medal.

Ray Nasmith won the first race then largely disappeared before winning the penultimate heat. David Page had gear trouble all day and eventually retired.

The Laser fleet wishes to thank the tireless club members and officials of the PRYC for staging another very successful regatta.

QLD EC12 Championship 2015

The weather bureau predicted 10-15kts SW swinging to SE and dropping out later in the day.

What really happened was a light Westerly which swing to the North after lunch and then dropped out around 3.00 pm. So much for science!!

For a class which has come and gone as far as the ARYA is concerned, there still seem to be a fair degree of enthusiasm for them, and 9 entries were received. Unfortunately, Yeoman had to withdraw due to ill health. So 8 skippers competed on the day.
