2016 QLD RM TITLES – HERVEY BAY QLD 30th April / 1st May
Saturday 30th April started with a couple of light showers but soon cleared and after the registration and setting up was complete, 11 starters were ready to do battle at the Uni Lake located in Hervey Bay City. The lake had recently been cleaned by the local council after years of lobbying from the Fraser Coast Club, and they were pleased with the result. We had 11 skippers register with a number of them travelling some extra-long distances to be at the event.
QLD Dragon Force Challenge 2016 Round 1
Dragon Force Challenge 2016 Round 1 Report
Since the arrival in 2013 of this affordable, one design restricted class yacht, which easily fits in your car, a number of new and experienced skippers have been attracted to Dragon Force yachts.
In sponsoring the inaugural Challenge, QRYA and Paradise Radio Yacht Club are to be congratulated on proactively fostering this growing interest in RC yacht racing.
Round One of the 2016 inaugural Dragon Force Challenge was raced at Emerald Lakes (Gold Coast) on Sunday April 10th.
C/QLD IOM Championship
The International One Meter CQ Championships have been sailed and won in light to moderate conditions on the Gladstone Marina last weekend.
An unfavourable off shore wind direction saw the even moved from Spinnaker Park to a more appropriate racing area near the new VMR building along the western bank of the marina, allowing for unrestricted and perfect 5-10 knot breeze all weekend.
Skippers from the Sunshine Coast, Fraser Coast, Bundaberg and north to the Whitsundays joined the Gladstone contingent to make a strong 21 boat competition.
BRYC Brisbane IOM Challenge
As always, the BRYC thanks Riversands for our venue, the BRYC club members who assisted in site preparation and the running the event, Ian Ashe for performing the PRO duties, and the skippers for their patronage.
The Eagleby venue is improving and now boasts toilet facilities and a mown grassed area on the northern shore of the lake incorporating a smaller fenced area in an attempt to keep the resident cattle of it.
There is ample space for parking. Adequate shade was provided, and with predicted temperatures in the low to mid 30’s, it was an absolute necessity.
